The Core Arabic programme teaches students Fusha (Standard) Arabic through everyday themes as well as Islamic themes so students have exposure to a wide range of vocabulary and topics. The programme works to develop all four language skills simultaneously: listening, reading, writing and speaking. The Arabic taught is mostly Modern Standard Arabic, with classical Arabic embedded throughout.

  • Learn to express themselves (verbally and in writing) in the context of introducing oneself and family, studies, food, time, holidays, daily routine, activities, hobbies, weather and clothes; 
  • Study fundamental grammar rules including (but not limited to): attached and detached pronouns, feminine and masculine, the past and present tense, interrogatives, demonstratives, possessive construction, dual and plural forms of nouns, imperatives, ordinal numbers, count nouns, nominal and verbal sentences, negation, types of plurals, structures related to telling the time, prepositions, original and substitutive case endings, use of the verb ‘to be’, adverbials of time and place, use of لأن and ل for justification, adjectives, future tense. 
  • Learn to read and write the Naskh script.

  • Learn new grammar rules including (but not limited to): relative pronouns, the infinitive, verbal nouns, parse sentences, more Arabic particles, the jussive case, the superlative, conjunctions, types of verb objects, diptotes, expressing wonder, the passive verb, 
  • Learn to read and write the Ruq’ah script.

  • Learn new grammar rules including (but not limited to): the five nouns and verbs, verb roots and derivatives, verb forms, subjunctive verbs, weak verbs, circumstantial adverbs, types of verb objects, conditionals, differentiation (التمييز), transitive and intransitive verbs and exceptions.
  • Revision of Naskh and Ruq’a script.

  • Build on and advance their knowledge of grammar concepts covered in the past levels such as derivatives, superlatives, verb objects, weak verbs, word patterns, case endings, expressions of wonder, derivatives, auxiliary verbs, negation and I’raab.
  • Learn new grammar rules including (but not limited to): exaggerative form, nouns of time, ablatives and place, emphasised verbs, verb-nouns, diminution, praise and dispraise. 
  • Practice researching and essay writing.
